The roster moved was announced today via Colts.com. Kaaya, who has an uncanny resemblance to Joseph Gordon-Levitt has spent time with the Detroit Lions prior to joining the Colts this off-season. The press release by the Colts advises that he has an undisclosed injury and will revert to the Colts injured reserve list/practice squad if he is not claimed off of waivers. Brad Kaaya is the all-time leading passer in Miami Hurricane History, completing 1,188 passes for 9,968 yards and was an integral part in the ‘Canes return to glory in recent history. In week one of the pre-season against the Seattle Seahawks, Kaaya completed three of four passes for 24 yards and had a measly -6 rush yards on 6 carries, none of which were sacks. He saw no action in week 2’s match-up on Monday Night Football against the Baltimore Ravens.
The Colts quarterback brigade has now been reduced to three, Andrew Luck, Jacoby Brisset and Phillip Walker. Brad Kaaya was fourth on the depth chart and clearly was not expected to have much of an impact. It is likely he was always destined for the practice squad and would serve well on the scout team with a similar play style of division rival Marcus Mariota of the Tennessee Titans. Brad’s ability to adapt to other play styles and his ability to learn other teams offensive schemes will prove if the former 6th round pick is able to make it on a teams practice squad and determine his longevity in the league.
