It’s hard to believe the PlayStation 4 turned five years old this past November. The gaming stalwart, PS4 had an amazing 2018. This past console generation it has run away with the competition, leaving the Xbox One in the dust. Sure, the Nintendo Switch is breaking all sorts of sales records, but it’s playing a very different game.

Here at Nerd Jock Blog, all things PlayStation will have a special place in our heart. From the first time Crash Bandicoot wore Aku Aku while taking down Dr. Neo Cortex we were all hooked on anything Playstation. The PS4 this year had triple-A hit after triple-A hit.  Here, in no particular order, are our top five Sony PlayStation 4 games released in 2018. 1. Shadow of the Colossus

Shadow of colossusWhat’s better than replaying a timeless classic? Playing it on a modern system at 60 frames per second in glorious high definition. Shadow of the Colossus for PS4 will have you awestruck as you take down a plethora of enormous enemies while you quest to save a girl. Haven’t played the original? No, sweat. The fact this is a rebuild of the original means it is great for players of any familiarity with the classic title. This game will have you obsessed with it just like Adam Sandler’s character is in the heartbreaking drama, Reign OverMe.


2. Marvel’s Spider-Man

81d6JU6g1pL._AC_SL1500_It’s fitting that in the year we lost beloved Stan Lee, we got the greatest video game based around a comic book character, Spider-Man. Clearly, Lee’s most iconic character had spidey fans in awe web-slinging around a stunning rendering of New York City. In an era where video games seem to never try to think outside of the box, Marvel’s Spider-Man redefined what open world games can be. If you are a fan of games that just put a smile on your face, pick this one up today.



3. God Of War

51po2bu7VnLLet’s be honest, heading into its eight installment, many people were skeptical of a new God Of War game and it’s prospects on the PS4. It is a franchise that felt played out, but once people got their hands on it they were blown away. Combat is amazing, the storytelling is groundbreaking and the graphics are breathtaking. It’s no wonder that this game won “game of the year” at this years Game AwardsThis title is a must own for all PS4 owners. Check it out on Amazon.



4. Red Dead Redemption 2

81z80lFufgL._AC_SL1500_This year we were blessed with the long-awaited return of James Marston the main protagonist in the Red Dead Redemption Franchise. RDR2 is a game that does not hold your hand. It is a very different game that moves at its own pace, just like a lone cowboy on a long ride through across a barren landscape. This game took the ideas and concepts first introduced in Red Dead Redemption and expanded upon them. This game is truly one of a kind. This game delivers hour after hour of unique gameplay and user-driven storylines. You and a friend could each start a game and after a couple of hours have come across many different storylines.

5. Assassins Creed Odyssey


2018 was a year of well-known franchises redefining themselves. Assassins Creed Odyssey was no different. It gave players the ability to choose between playing as a male or female protagonist. The addition and emphasis on several RPG elements not only changed how we play Assassins Creed titles but improved upon a well-known formula. The setting of ancient Greece was unique, breathtaking and full of compelling characters that just beg you to explore. Do yourself a favor and pick this title up.
