Let me preface this article by saying I’ve only started following hockey in the past 10 years. During that time, I watched and still watch the St. Louis Blues. The Blues are currently deadlocked with the San Jose Sharks at 1 game apiece, winner moves on to the Stanley Cup Finals. The Blues are looking to end a 50+ year championship drought and the Blues have a roster that’s producing, and a key individual is Vladimir Tarasenko. A little history on Tarasenko follows.

The Blues originally drafted Tarasenko in 2010 with the 16th pick. In 2012-2013 he joined the team for the shortened 48 game season (2011-2012 NHL was on strike) and he was immediately electric!  In February of 2014 he won Rookie of the month for January. In March of 2014 near the end of the season he had hand surgery and was expected to be out for some time.  He came back for the 2014 Stanley Cup playoffs and scored 4 goals in six games, which the Blues eventually lost the series 4-2.  In 2014-2015 he recorded his first hat-trick, and lead the Blues in goals (37) and points (73) also in 2015 he scored his first Stanley Cup hat-trick against the Minnesota Wild, a series they also lost 4-2.

In July 2015 the Blues and Tarasenko agreed on an 8-year $60 million-dollar contract to stay with the Blues. So, as you can see, he’s a very electric and important player. During the 2018-2019 season Tarasenko had 33 goals in 76 games, with 35 assists and 68 Pts.

In January 2019 the Blues were the worst team in the NHL, they used a franchise record 11 game winning streak and subsequent wins to rocket up the leader boards and secure a playoff spot.  I thought that Tarasenko was going to continue his dominance in the playoffs.  However, that hasn’t seemed to be the case at the moment, that role has fallen to Jaden Schwartz he has 9 goals in 15 games including a hat trick against the Winnipeg Jets!  Tarasenko in the playoffs has had 5 goals, and 2 assists in the first 15 games of these Stanley Cup playoffs.

I can certainly speak for Blues fans when I say “Where have you gone Tarasenko, Blues nations turn its lonely eyes to you”?

LET’S GO BLUES!!!
